A whitelist is a collection of people or items who are authorised or permitted to perform a certain action or view specific information.
In Internet terms, a whitelist is used by many e-mail providers as a list of acceptable e-mail addresses. If an e-mail address is received from a source that is not whitelisted, it will usually be marked as 'junk' or 'SPAM' and be moved to a relevant folder.
Most e-mail providers give details of how to whitelist e-mail addresses that may have been wrongly classified. Intergage also provides a guide to whitelisting e-mail addresses.
