What is social bookmarking?

Social bookmarking is a method of tagging Web pages, articles and items on the Internet that allows users to either share or return to the item at a later date.

Bookmarking is carried out through a number of Social Bookmarking websites that record and hold information on all of the items bookmarked by individual users. Users can then utilise their account to return to the items at a later date or share their selected items with other users.

Users add items to their bookmarking profile through the use of a social bookmarking toolbar. Social bookmarking toolbars are common across the Web nowadays and take the form of a small number of social bookmarking website logos for the user to select from.

The Intergage CMS incorporates social bookmarking tools as standard within all of its websites.
