Description:

Join a Talented Development Team Working in Beautiful Poole, Dorset

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, adaptable: able to self-teach, customer and quality focused. You will have a degree in a computing discipline, a keen interest in computer programming and an aspiration to become a core member of the team..

This key role will be one of software development however the role will also include elements of customer technical support and may include assistance with internal Office PC support. Training will be given in areas where specific skills have not yet been developed in a commercial environment.

Software development, key skills required: -

  • A thorough understanding of OO programming techniques
  • The ability to write thoroughly tested, quality software maintainable in a team environment.

Software development, additional skills (nice to have, but we'll train you if you are the right person) include familiarity with/knowledge in following areas:-

  • Server-side scripting languages, ideally Perl
  • Client-side JavaScript using OO techniques and ideally AJAX.
  • User interface design
  • Web markup standards, e.g. HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS
  • Search engine strategies & techniques
  • Relational databases and use of SQL, ideally MySQL
  • Web server programming environment, e.g. CGI and HTTP
  • Source code version control, ideally using subversion
  • Networking using TCP/IP and DNS
  • Accounting systems, e.g. Sage
  • CRM systems, e.g. GoldMine, salesforce.com

Customer support, key skills:-

  • A good telephone and e-mail manner

Customer support, additional skills (not completely necessary from day 1 because we can train you in these): -

  • E-mail setup, SMTP and POP3
  • Domain name management, Web and e-mail
  • Server configuration, Linux (Webmin and command line) and/or Windows
  • Web server configuration, ideally Apache
  • Mail server configuration, ideally sendmail, postfix and spam assassin

Experience of support of PCs within an office environment is not a pre-requisite, however it would be useful to have experience in this area.
