Big-hearted A FC Bournemouth hero Steve Fletcher has just met his youngest fan…tiny five-week-old Fletcher Sargent, named in his honour.
Little Fletcher has been ‘attending’ Cherries games even before being born courtesy of mum Corrie but until now had never met the talismanic Bournemouth star he was named after.
Now the two Fletchers have finally met face to face thanks to a special VIP visit organised for little Fletch and his proud mum and dad Ben and Corrie Sargent.
Big Fletch even presented his little namesake with a personalised Cherries kit as a special gift from the club, delighting faithful AFC Bournemouth fans Ben and Corrie.
Dad Ben in particular has been a lifelong Cherries fan since his own father Chris first started taking him to games many years ago.
Ben then swiftly converted Corrie to AFC Bournemouth and she now regularly accompanies him to matches.
When asked what it felt like to meet the newborn carrying his name, Big Fletch said: "Having a stand named after you is great but having a baby named after you is even more amazing it is the greatest compliment that anyone can ever pay you and I feel truly honoured.”
Proud dad Ben said: "This has been a brilliant day, one that we will never forget. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Fletch and all the rest of the team at AFC Bournemouth.
“When our little Fletcher is older, we will be so proud when we show him all the photos from the day he met Big Fletch, was presented with his first Cherries kit and toured the stadium.”
The visit was organised by Poole-headquartered digital marketing agency Intergage where Corrie works many of her colleagues are Cherries fans themselves.
Intergage Managing Director Paul Tansey said: "Corrie has been a delight to work with a real favourite of clients and her colleagues.
“We all felt that if we co uld arrange for Big Fletch to meet little Fletch, that would be a great way to let Corrie know how much she means to us. The club has been brilliant with helping to make this come about.”
The photos were taken by award-winning photographer Mike Browne an Intergage client who also thinks very highly of Corrie. He donated his time as a thank you for all the professional help and support Corrie has given him.
Corrie said: "This was a complete surprise. My colleagues at Intergage, Ben and Chris and the club all organised the event without telling me a thing about it.
“The first I knew was when I was picked up by Ben's dad Chris for a surprise day out and ended up at Dean Court with little Fletcher only to be met by Ben, Mike and the guys from Intergage.”
Paul Tansey added: “We're all very grateful to Big Fletch, Mike Browne and AFC Bournemouth for all their support."
