Have you received the message in Google Search Console?
Read on to find out what it means and how we have fixed it for you.
When Google crawls your website it reads your website's files in order to understand what your site looks like, how it functions and what content it may contain.
Most websites, including Intergage sites, are built with a combination of different file types. Your site has some of these JS and CSS files in order to aid the look and feel of your site and enhance the user's experience.
As Google algorithms evolve they become better at 'seeing' websites as we see see them, so reading these JS and CSS files is important to understand how a website appears.
Google wants this to be a part of its ranking algorithm, but in order to do so, it needs to make sure that it can 'see' your site. This is becoming more significant as Google seeks to understand user interaction across different devices, like smartphones.
Our understanding is that the effect on rankings is currently minimal, so for those of you who have received the message you should not have seen any detrimental effect on your site's ranking.
We do however expect it to have increased effect, hence the warning message from Google at the end of July to millions of website owners worldwide via Search Console.
As a result of this warning, Intergage has taken immediate action and modified the robots.txt file of your website so Google has access to these file types. This action should mean you won't see this message again (at least until Google move the goalposts!)
In order to implement this change on your site, all you will need to is log into your Intergage Website admin area and do a "Full Site Update" That is it.
If you do not, your site will not benefit from this update and to quote Google; "blocking access to these assets can result in suboptimal rankings."
This is one of the many benefits of having an Intergage Website. Paying a subscription not only gives you access to our training, seminars, hosting and support, but when Google does drop the odd hand grenade our development team are on hand to pick it up and hurl it back. This protects you and your business, ensuring you are not exposed to further cost or damage to your business.
