How to Make Your LinkedIn Profile Pop

LinkedIn has a number of neat little tricks that you can adopt to make your LinkedIn profile stand out from the crowd.

A well optimised profile can be beneficial in a number of ways – anything from impressing a potential employer/client to the SEO benefits of being found more readily in the search results of search engines and LinkedIn itself.

So what do I mean by a well optimised LinkedIn profile?

Anyone who has used LinkedIn will be more than aware that LinkedIn wants you to “complete your profile”. Essentially they want to know about your previous work experience, projects, skills, etc. This will lead to more a complete profile and more visibility in the search results.

Recently however LinkedIn have given us much more to play with. With the introduction of links and rich media into the fray LinkedIn has given it’s users an easier way to show off their skills.

In my Summary I can now include links to the blogs I work on! Increased exposure to my work to anyone visiting my profile and more ways in which I can show that person I know my stuff.

As well as links you can include images and videos, making your LinkedIn profile a much more visual platform from which to sell personal brand. LinkedIn shows off some nice examples here.

To change yours simply select “edit” on your profile then follow the prompts in your “Summary,” “Experience” and “Education” sections.

From here you can also create and optimise your very own LinkedIn URL. It’s a good idea to include an industry relevant keyword into your URL if possible – a novel way to remind people of your area of expertise.
