Failing to Plan Your Marketing is Planning to Fail!

With many companies wasting around 50% of their marketing budget each year, putting a plan in place is a must and will enable you to be more proactive, creative and budget-conscious in 2013.

When writing a marketing plan, we are firm believers in following the One Page Marketing  Plan Challenge:

  • How many companies have a 50 page marketing plan document which doesn’t get used, read or communicated to the team?
  • Surely a one page visual plan would be easier to follow and easier to communicate to the supporting team…

The first step is to think about the allocation of budget and time spent for each section of marketing, the way we would define this is to allow:

  • One third of your budget for acquiring new prospects /new client
  • The other two thirds should be spent on communication with existing customers to encourage them to come back more often and to spend more when they are with you.

When drawing up your one page plan, we use a simple chart to get you started:

You will find this a much easier plan to follow and keep to – you can even print it off and put it above your desk. It is also simple to communicate to your team and get them involved.

We also recommend you take this one step further:

1.)    Use colour coding to allocate roles and responsibilities

2.)    Turn it into a timeline to manage projects within the marketing plan.
